Electreon Wireless (ELWSF) has acquired U.S.-based InductEV, a company specializing in high-power wireless charging systems for electric vehicle fleets. The deal strengthens Electreon’s position in the rapidly growing wireless EV charging sector and expands its footprint in the North American market. (Technical.ly)
Combining Complementary Wireless Charging Technologies
The acquisition brings together two complementary technologies in the wireless EV charging ecosystem. Electreon is known for its dynamic wireless charging technology, which enables electric vehicles to charge while driving over specially equipped roadways. InductEV, meanwhile, focuses on ultra-fast static wireless charging systems designed primarily for heavy-duty transit and freight fleets.
By combining these systems, the merged platform aims to deliver a complete range of wireless charging solutions that can support multiple vehicle categories, including passenger cars, buses, vans, heavy-duty trucks, and autonomous vehicles.
Creating a Broader Wireless Charging Ecosystem
Electreon said the transaction will help accelerate the development and deployment of wireless charging infrastructure globally. The combined company will integrate Electreon’s dynamic charging technology and stationary high-power systems with InductEV’s ultra-fast wireless charging platforms, creating a unified offering across multiple charging scenarios.
Together, the companies bring around 400 existing and pending patents related to wireless power transfer technologies, strengthening their intellectual property portfolio in the emerging EV infrastructure market.
Expanding Market Reach
Electreon currently operates projects across multiple regions, including Europe, North America, and the Middle East, while InductEV has deployed wireless charging systems for transit and commercial fleets across North America and Europe.
The acquisition is expected to accelerate adoption of wireless charging for public transportation and commercial fleets by combining Electreon’s global deployment experience with InductEV’s established relationships with fleet operators and vehicle manufacturers.
InductEV will maintain its headquarters in Pennsylvania following the transaction, and the companies plan to integrate teams across both organizations to support continued development and deployment of the technology.
Advancing the Future of EV Charging
Wireless charging is viewed by many industry participants as a potential next step in EV infrastructure, allowing vehicles to recharge automatically without cables or plugs. In dynamic wireless charging systems, power is transferred through inductive coils embedded beneath the road surface, enabling vehicles to charge while driving or when stopped over charging pads.
By merging their technologies, Electreon and InductEV aim to build what executives describe as a global platform for wireless EV charging, capable of supporting everything from passenger vehicles to large commercial fleets.
